Membrane failure

membrane failure
Casali ABM team had a recent jobsite visit where the 1,500 sqm rooftop was previously waterproofed with only 1 layer of mineral membranes.
The roof has scattered leakages all over due to the bad condition of the current system.
The failure of the system was also due to the shrinkage of the membrane sheets which detached in the overlapping areas.
Our team found out that (among other issues) most likely this shrinkage happened because of the poor construction of the membrane itself, where the poorly made reinforcement does not guarantee any dimensional stability to the membrane.. this is resulting in the shrinkage of the membrane, the detachment of the overlapping area and failure of the waterproofing system.
All the Casali membranes are “stabilized” and the shrinkage issue is much less likely to happen, this will result in a lower chance of detachment and lower chance of overlapping failure and in a longer lifespan of the membrane waterproofing system.
Casali Viscogum bitumen membranes has a specifis reinforcement that allow the membrane not to change shape and avoid shrinkage, see the related weblink: https://casaliabmsea.com/viscogum/
